Structured training for surf technique and ocean knowledge

Training Programs

Our training programs translate the ocean into clear, learnable skills. Each pathway combines beach-based understanding with in-water practice so you can make safer decisions, read waves with more accuracy, and improve technique with less guesswork.

Program philosophy

Surfing improves fastest when you understand two things at the same time: how your body moves on a board, and how the ocean behaves around you. Our programs link those parts together. Instead of isolated tips, you get a framework for making decisions: where to paddle, when to stand, which wave to choose, and how to exit safely when the ocean shifts.

Each session begins with a quick conditions check and a shared plan. We identify one or two priority skills, then repeat drills that match your level. The aim is calm consistency. You should leave with a clear takeaway you can practice again, plus a better understanding of tide movement, rip behavior, and etiquette. This approach supports beginners who need structure, and also helps experienced surfers refine timing and positioning.

Clarity over complexity

We focus on a small number of cues you can remember in real conditions. A simple plan is easier to execute when waves are moving and the lineup is busy.

Safety and confidence

Ocean awareness is treated as a skill, not a lecture. We build it through observation, decision-making, and routines you can repeat at different beaches.

Repeatable drills

Your plan includes drills for paddling, pop ups, and positioning that you can do again without special equipment, so progress continues between coached sessions.

Supportive coaching

Instruction is direct and welcoming. We keep feedback practical, help you set realistic goals, and explain why each adjustment matters for wave quality and control.

If you are looking for a first lesson, start with our Courses. If you already surf and want a structured focus, these programs are designed to guide your next steps.

Training pathways

These pathways explain what we train and why it matters. They are not a checklist you must rush through. The goal is steady improvement paired with better ocean judgement, so each session feels purposeful and safe.

Technique foundations

We build a reliable base: balanced stance, efficient paddling, stable takeoff, and controlled trimming. You learn how to generate speed through positioning and body alignment rather than forcing movement.

Core topics
  • Warm up and mobility for surfing movement
  • Paddling cadence, glide, and efficient breathing
  • Pop up mechanics and stance stability
  • Trim line, weight shifts, and basic turns

Wave reading and positioning

Improve your ability to identify the best takeoff zone, spot changing peaks, and time your paddle with less wasted effort. We translate what you see on the horizon into decisions you can act on.

Core topics
  • Swell direction and how it shapes the break
  • Where waves stand up and how to read sections
  • Lineup positioning, priorities, and etiquette
  • Timing paddles to reduce late drops and wipeouts

Ocean safety and self-management

Learn to assess hazards and adapt. We teach practical safety habits: spotting rips, using landmarks, reading tide movement, and staying calm when you need to reset and exit.

Core topics
  • Rip currents, channels, and safer paddle routes
  • Wave impact zones and safe wipeout behavior
  • Entry and exit plans for changing tide levels
  • Etiquette as a safety tool in crowded water

Equipment basics and setup

Equipment should support learning, not slow it down. We explain board choice, volume, and fin basics in plain terms, and show how wetsuit fit, leash length, and wax selection affect comfort and control. You also learn simple care routines that extend equipment life and keep sessions smoother.

Board selection
Volume, shape, and why stability matters early on.
Wetsuit comfort
Fit, warmth, movement, and post-session care.
Leash and safety
Correct length, checks, and how to avoid tangles.
Fins and feel
Basic fin setup effects for control and turning.

A typical session flow

Conditions in Ireland can shift quickly, so we keep the plan adaptable. The steps below explain how a training-focused session runs and what happens after you contact us to discuss a program fit.

  1. 1

Check the ocean and set a goal

We review tide, wind, swell, and beach hazards, then set a single priority goal. This keeps learning focused and helps you measure progress realistically.

  2. 2

    Beach drills and safety routines

We practice movement patterns and review an entry and exit plan. Beginners gain calm structure, while experienced surfers sharpen timing and positioning habits.

  3. 3

    In-water practice with clear cues

We apply the focus area to real waves using simple cues, repeated drills, and practical feedback. The aim is control and consistency, not rushing into harder waves.

  4. 4

    Review and next steps

After the session we summarize what worked, what to keep practicing, and what to prioritize next. If you contacted us about a program, we reply with guidance based on your message and goals.
