About MAD WATER SPORTS LTD

A surf school built around ocean respect and real progress

We teach surfing as a skill and as a relationship with the coast. Our coaching combines clear technique, calm decision-making, and practical ocean education so students can enjoy the water with confidence across Ireland.

Our philosophy

Surfing looks free and effortless, but the real experience comes from small details repeated until they become natural. Our approach is based on clear fundamentals, simple cues, and real understanding of the sea. Each lesson is built to reduce guesswork. We want students to know why a wave breaks a certain way, why positioning matters, and how to make decisions when conditions shift.

We also believe surfing is better when it is shared with respect. That means teaching surf etiquette early, encouraging students to communicate in the lineup, and treating the beach as a place that deserves care. Progress is not measured by the size of the wave you ride. It is measured by control, awareness, and confidence that stays steady from one session to the next.

Clarity over confusion

We set a small set of goals per session, then practice them in a way you can repeat. This keeps learning grounded and makes it easier to notice improvement.

Ocean awareness

Waves, tide, wind, and currents shape every session. We teach how to assess conditions and make safer choices without relying on luck or bravado.

Respect for the lineup

Etiquette is part of safety. We teach right of way, spacing, and communication so your surfing fits well within the shared space of the break.

Coastal care

Surfing depends on healthy beaches and clean water. We encourage practical stewardship habits that keep coastal spaces welcoming for everyone.

If you prefer a structured learning path, our Training Programs page explains how we teach technique, safety, wave reading, and equipment basics across different levels.

How we teach

Coaching should feel supportive and specific. We aim to give feedback that is actionable within the next few waves. That means focusing on a consistent pop up pattern, keeping the board moving with efficient paddling, and learning where to sit so you can catch waves with less effort. We also treat the beach as part of the lesson. The best surf sessions often start before you touch the water with a quick plan and a clear safety check.

For intermediate and advanced surfers, our instruction stays practical: wave selection, speed generation, timing, and turn mechanics. We keep goals realistic for the day, so you can work within the conditions and still leave with progress points you can repeat next time.

Beginner focus

  • Board handling, safe entries, and controlled exits

  • Early wave reading and timing on smaller surf

Progression focus

  • Positioning, wave choice, and managing speed
  • Trimming lines, bottom turn setup, and flow
  • Decision-making in varied swell, tide, and wind

Lifestyle education that supports your surf time

Surfing is not only what happens on a wave. It is choosing equipment that fits, understanding forecasts, and building routines that keep you warm, comfortable, and ready. Our Surf Lifestyle section shares articles and tips that help you stay connected between sessions.
